When reflecting on the verse “ليس كمثله شيء” (There is nothing like Him), we uncover a profound linguistic and theological precision. Some may wonder: why didn’t the Quran simply say “ليس مثله شيء” (There is nothing similar to Him)? Wouldn’t that be enough to negate any similarity?

The ك is Not Redundant

1. In the Quran, Allah states: "ليس كمثله شيء" (There is nothing like Him). This powerful verse affirms that no being—whether angel, prophet, or idol—shares even a fraction of Allah’s divine nature. Some might assume that while nothing is His equal, perhaps certain creations hold a lesser resemblance to His power or authority. However, the Quranic language eliminates this misconception entirely.

A similar structure appears in "فلا تقل لهما أف ولا تنهرهما" (Do not say to them "uff," nor rebuke them). Here, even the smallest sign of disrespect toward parents is prohibited, emphasizing the greater duty of honoring them. Likewise, in "ليس كمثله شيء", even the slightest notion of similarity to Allah is negated, ensuring that no created being—no matter how exalted—shares in His divine essence.

2. This absolute uniqueness means that existence cannot contain two of His kind. Allah is beyond comparison, beyond limitation, and beyond multiplicity. His divine attributes—perfect knowledge, will, and power—belong to Him alone.

By including the "ك" (kaf), the Quran firmly rejects any form of resemblance—whether complete or partial. This highlights a core principle of Islamic monotheism: nothing in existence, in any way, can be compared to Allah.
